What not to wear

When I look at my families photos from the early 2000s I ALWAYS CRACK UP! The statement that your photos outlive you is very accurate! Heck, even looking at my senior photos of me in a chevron dress haunts me in my parents dining room! LOL! The point I am getting at is classic is always a safe bet!! Im going to talk about things NOT to wear first!

  1. ANYTHING WITH LOGOS!
  2. Hoodies or causal wear, UNLESS you are going for a cozy in home session.
  3. SUPER BRIGHT COLORS, again this is for the 8/10 sessions. Bright colors can cast onto the skin as well! Such as UK blue.... I will be completely honest that color is the worst to photograph, It can look beautiful in the city, but if you're in the country at sunset with a UK blue shirt, it truly clashes.
  4. Moms- don’t wear shirts that don’t fit right in the chest. If they are too small it will cause gaping between buttons. If a top is too loose, or has too large of a neckline it will expose the bra strap. Don’t wear a shirt or dress with a low neckline. Remember the kids will be cuddling and playing with you. The last thing you want to do is be constantly adjusting your clothes!
  5. Dads- don’t wear shirts that are too short for your torso. Dads should expect to be playing and swinging the kids . If your shirt lifts way above your belly when you raise your arms, it’s probably not the look you are going for.
  6. Wear comfortable shoes! Our session is going to be busy!
  7. Please be mindful of the patterns on your clothes. It can make the location seem too busy.
  8. Please do not dress like someone you are not!! I am all about capturing who you are! You will look and feel uncomfortable if you aren’t dressing for yourselves. Wear what speaks to you, what you feel good in and what makes you comfortable. After all this is YOUR photoshoot, have fun with it!

What to Wear

  1. Keep it simple! Less is more! If someone is wearing a pattern please have them be the only ones! Pick a color that is within their clothes. It makes the photo feel so crisp and clean.
  2. Flatter your figure!
  3. Wear sleeves. In my experience a lot of my clients are super self conscience of their arms!
  4. Dress in longer skirts, dresses, pants or have your dress be flowy if short! We will be sitting down, and moving a ton! So I don't want you to have to worry if you flashed me!! but I mean if you did its okay!! IVE SEEN IT ALL
  5. Coordinate your clothes!!! Try to keep everyone on the same page and color palette of 2-4 colors. The best tip I recommend for a place to start your family outfit planning is to pick one item of clothing with a few colors (like mom or daughter’s dress) and pull colors from that for everyone else to wear. Dress like you go together

I can say this because they are my besties, but this is an example of what not to wear! The colors clash! Although they still looked gorgeous, This could have been better!

Same couple, after talking about wardrobe! This is a yes for me!

I have a Pinterest board for that

If there is one thing about me, is that I'm going to have a Pinterest board for everything. I am constantly adding to this board.
